Bonnie Mae Hummingbird was born on May 29, 1936 in Okemah, OK and grew up in Cushing. She moved to Wichita, Kansas, where she met the love of her life William Hummingbird. At the age of 17 Bonnie married William on January 6, 1953. At the age of 18 Bonnie found Christ and was baptized. In 1954 they began their new family and had five children: Jeanette Washington, Stacy Kemp, Ruth Butson, Wade Hummingbird, and Pat Hummingbird.
While her children were young Bonnie was a homemaker and loved to cook. She also attended beauty college and then later attended NSU in Tahlequah. She worked several years in the health care system at Saint Francis in Wichita, and then later at Saint Francis in Tulsa, where she retired. Some of Bonnie's hobbies included reading Louis Lamar books, card games, researching genealogy and learning the Cherokee culture. She loved her husband and children very much and loved each and every one of her 14 grandchildren and her 16 great grandchildren.
Bonnie went to be with the Lord on July 26, 2015. She is preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Ruth Guffey of Grove, and brothers Perry and John Guffey of Wichita. She is survived by her husband William Hummingbird, her five children, and her sisters Betty Morrison and Jody Shaw of Grove.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, August 1, 2015 at Echota Baptist Church with Bro. Robert Haling officiating. Interment will follow at Echota Cemetery under the care and direction of Hart Funeral Home.
