Cossena (Catron) Powell, 78, of Stilwell, Oklahoma, passed away on November 24th, 2020, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She was born on September 18th, 1942, in Modesto, California, she was the daughter of John Lee Catron (Desaust) and Louise (Nofire) Reed.
She was preceded in death by her parents; John and Louise Nofire-Catron-Reed, her husband; Rodney Lavern Powell, her son; Tommy Lynn Powell, her brother; James Reed and her grandson; Jeffrey Burrough.
Survivors include her children; Leslie Wayne Powell of Siloam Springs, Arkansas, Cynthia Louise Shelley and husband Jeff of West Siloam Springs, Oklahoma and Tammy Sue Avants and husband Jim of Tahlequah, Oklahoma. Siblings include; Donna Marino of New York, Johnny Catron of Fayetteville, Theda Hamilton, Danny and Joe Catron of Stilwell, Maria Catron-Geasland and Doug Reed of Tahlequah Oklahoma. Grandchildren; Ethan Powell of Gentry, Arkansas, Christie and Jeremy Burrough of West Siloam Springs, Cody Avants of Tahlequah Oklahoma, Jake Avants of Fayetteville Arkansas, Wiley Avants of Clarksville, Arkansas and Nicholas Powell of San Antonio, Texas. Great-grandchildren; Emily Tharp and Braydon Burrough of West Siloam Springs, Arkansas, Cole Avants of Clarksville, Arkansas and Kaitleen Powell of San Antonio, Texas.
Cossena grew up in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, she attended the Tahlequah Public School and graduated from High School there. She lived in the Eldon community for many years.
Cossena was raised by her Grandmother, Flora Francis Rosa Nofire-Brannon in the Tahlequah Oklahoma area. She loved her children,grandchildren and great grandchildren dearly. She was a housewife firstly. Always meeting the needs of her children. She had several factory type jobs for a few years, but her main endeavor was to be with her family.
Cossena has many hobbies as a young wife and mother. She enjoyed cooking for her friends and family. She loved to sew and crochet. She was an avid book reader and spent many hours with her grand-daughter Christie reading together. In her later years she enjoyed the company of her cats, Bo, Uno and Dos.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday December 1, 2020, at Hart Funeral Home Chapel from 8 AM to 11 AM followed by her service at 11:00 am with Brother Larry Eubanks officiating. Interment will follow at Caney Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be; Jim Avants, Jeff Shelley, Cody Avants, Braydon Burrough, Jake Avants and Wiley Avants.
