Dewey McLemore was born on March 20, 1937, in Welling, OK. He went home to be with the Lord on January 23, 2021 in Tahlequah, OK at the age of 83. Dewey accepted Jesus Christ as his savior many years ago. He was of the Baptist Faith.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Rosie McLemore of the home in Stilwell, OK, his children, Kathy and husband Larry, Tracy and wife Sherry, Travis and wife LeAnn, Rosetta, Michael, and Kim and husband Aron all of Stilwell, OK, his brothers, Defovie, Chester, and Thomas, his very dear friend, Phillip who he worked with for many years, grandchildren, Kirstie, Darian, Reese, Caleb, Kendra, Martika, Jeremy, Cameron, Emily, Randy, Caitlin, Jordan, Katrina and Madelyn as well as 5 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his mom, Gracie Terrapin and brothers, Bill and Garscely.
Dewey was an OU Sooners and Kansas City Chiefs fan. He liked to watch old westerns, his hobbies were fishing, gardening, and working around the house doing home improvement and also liked to watch boxing and wrestling. He worked many jobs over the years to take care of his family which were:Stilwell Canning Factory, Green Leaf Nursery, Bus driver for Tenkiller School, Ranch Hand for Veraman Davis and many seasonal jobs. He worked for the Stilwell Housing Authority for 17 years until his retirement.
Dewey was a full blood UKB member for many years and he was a proud fluent Cherokee speaker. He loved telling his stories in his native language. Dewey was the rock of his family. He was always there for his children and grandchildren anytime they needed him. His family thanks God for the many years we got to enjoy this great man that was known as husband, dad, duda, and grandpa to us.
