Harvey James Christie was born on September 18, 1957, in Claremore, Oklahoma, to Louise Ross and Lacie Christie. He passed away on June 6, 2014, at the age of 56 years.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Louise Springwater and Lacie Christie, his stepfather, Robert Springwater, one brotherinlaw, Cornelius Jack Frogg and one sisterinlaw, Linda Christie.
He is survived by a daughter, Sonja Davenport and fianc, Trent Reynolds, of Denver, CO one brother, Calvin Christie, of Stilwell two sisters, Betty Frogg, of Stilwell and Barbara McDaniel and husband, Donald, of Fort Gibson. He is also survived by his nieces, nephews and cousins.
Harvey graduated from Stilwell High School in 1975 and was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and the U.S. Army Reserve and was honorably discharged in 1999. While he was serving his country in the Reserve he attended Northeastern State University and graduated with a degree in Accounting and a degree in Elementary Education. He began his career as an educator at Maryetta and then continued his public service in Anchorage, Alaska. He was one of the few special men who taught elementary school students and he loved every minute of teaching.
He retired from teaching in 2013 and returned to his homeland in Wauhillau, where his family resides since Cherokee removal times and where his famous uncle Ned Christie and grandfather, Watt Christie fought for the Cherokee Nation.
Funeral services were held 10:00 a.m. Thursday, June 12, 2014, at Hart Memorial Chapel with Gary Leach and Steve Campbell officiating. Interment was at 2:00 p.m. in the Fort Gibson National Cemetery under the care and direction of Hart Funeral Home of Stilwell.
