J. Warren Green, Jr.
James Warren Green Jr. passed peacefully on Sunday May 19, 2024 at age 88. At his side were both of his sons Dr. Bob Green and Jay Green. He was born on Sept. 2, 1935, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and his friends and family called him Warren. His parents James Warren Green, Sr. and Maybelle Green preceded him in death. He graduated from Stilwell High School, Stilwell Oklahoma, Class of ‘58.
After High School, he worked various jobs, including fire fighting with the US Forest Service in Idaho. In the following years he also earned his teaching credentials from then Northeastern State Teacher’s College (Tahlequah, OK). He later married and moved to Sioux City, Iowa and began his teaching career. To further his career, he earned a Masters Degree in Education from Wayne State College (Wayne, Nebraska). After teaching for more than 30 years in Iowa and driving a long haul truck during Summer breaks, he returned to his family farm in Baron, OK where he enjoyed his retirement years.
His time in the forests of Idaho began his passion for gardening and forestry. Throughout his life he grew large gardens and planted orchards that gave him great pleasure. He tended the gardens with his family. At his farm near Baron, Oklahoma he replanted native trees such as Pawpaw and Blackhaw. The love of gardening he had was passed on to both of his sons. When he wasn’t in a garden, he could be found boating or fishing on the Missouri River or riding his Honda Shadow motorcycle. A cycling enthusiast, he attended the Sturgis Bike rally near Black Hills South Dakota numerous times. He once rode his motorcycle from Stilwell, OK to Sturgis for the rally, a distance of over 1,000 miles. He had many supportive friends in the biker community. He also took great pride is being a member of the Masonic Lodge in Stilwell, Oklahoma. His parents had been lodge members decades prior and he carried on the family tradition. The Masonic brothers were often spoken of very fondly as was the charity works that his group was involved with. He enjoyed the simple things in life and was the most relaxed in nature with his dog. He will be greatly missed by his friends and family.
Warren is survived by his son Jay Green of Palm Springs, CA, his son Dr. Bob Green of Kansas City, MO and his three children, Caroline, Katherine and Spencer. Warren has two living sisters: Virginia Bowers of Mulberry, Arkansas and Martha Gore of Stilwell, Oklahoma. His sister Anita Rogers of Little Rock, Arkansas preceded him in death.
