Katie Sue (Ketcher) Hummingbird, aged 78, passed from this life on Tuesday, October 26, 2021, at WW Hastings Hospital in Tahlequah, OK. Best known by her middle name, Sue was born on January 30, 1943, the fifth of eight children of Noah Ketcher and Tempie (Dice) Ketcher of Stilwell, Oklahoma. Sue attended and graduated from Stilwell High School where she met the love of her life Jimmy (Nick) Hummingbird. The pair were married on April 12, 1961, and soon began raising a family.
The Hummingbird family moved to Cherokee, North Carolina in 1973 where Sue worked as a bank teller then as a secretary at Cherokee High School. The family returned to Oklahoma in 1984 where Sue began working at the Bank of Commerce in Stilwell before retiring after twenty-five years of service.
In addition to spending time with her children, grandchildren, and extended family, Sue had a passion for sewing and quilting. Christmas, birthdays, and new additions to the family were occasions for Sue to craft her latest beautiful creation. Sue enjoyed spending time with her quilting friends in Stillwell, quilting for charities and people in the community, with some of her handiworks being featured in newspapers and quilting publications.
Preceded in death by her parents, Noah and Tempie Ketcher; husband of 54 years, Nick Hummingbird; an infant daughter; four brothers, LJ, Watie, Don, and Stan Ketcher; one sister, Tina Shipley; granddaughters Lia (Hummingbird) Ciszewski and Tara Hummingbird. Sue is survived by her sisters Virginia Hummingbird of Stilwell, OK and Wynema (Alfred "Poss") Bean of St. Louis, MO; son Jimmy Dean Hummingbird and wife Kara of Martinsburg, WV, daughter Dana (Hummingbird) Noel and husband Shawn of Stilwell, OK, son Jamie Hummingbird and wife Tonnette of Tahlequah, OK; four grandsons, Drake Hummingbird, Nick (Sam) Noel, Josh (Janie) Noel, and Lance Hummingbird; three granddaughters, Kelsi (David) Solano, and Kerrigan & Lauren Hummingbird; great-grandsons Jake Futch and Declan Ciszewski; great-granddaughters Taylor Futch and Presley Noel; and numerous sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, November 2, 2021, from 9:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. Services will be held on Wednesday, November 3, 2021, at 10:00 a.m., at Hart Funeral Home in Stilwell, before being laid to rest at Stilwell Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations be made in Sue’s name to the American Cancer Society.
