Kenneth Holloway

January 17, 1930 — April 29, 2019

Kenneth J. Holloway was born on the coldest night ever recorded so far in Oklahoma History, January 17, 1930, in Lyon's Switch Southwest of Stilwell. His parents were William L. (Bill) and Lucinda (McLemore) Holloway. He was the 8th out of 10 children. He departed this life on April 29, 2019 in Stilwell, Oklahoma at the age of 89 years, 3 months and 12 days.

He started school at Lyon's Switch, with Doris Fry his first teacher. Juanita Starr was his third Grade Teacher. The school consolidated with Union Grade, later renamed Cave Springs. He later graduated in 1947 and entered the Army in August 1948 where he served until July 1954. He married Juanita Worley on October 2, 1954 and they were blessed with 3 children: Kenneth Jay, Katherine Sue, and Karen Jean. They also raised 3 grandchildren: Mark Allen, Kevin Wayne and Christy Michelle Holloway. They have four more granddaughters, a grandson and a great granddaughter. They made their home just west of Stilwell on Highway 100 where they lived for over 58 years. In August 1954 he enrolled in Northeastern State College in Tahlequah. He graduated in July 1957 with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration. He started teaching in August 1957 at Elm Grove. He taught the 5th-8th grades and Virginia Patterson Guthrie taught the 1st-4th. He taught there until April 1960 serving as Principal and teacher. During this time he was working on his Master's Degree, taking night classes and summer classes. In August 1960 he started teaching at Bell and remained there until April 1964. From there he moved to Rocky Mountain from 1964-1968 then returned to Bell from 1968-1972. then when Jennie Gott retired at Rocky Mountain they hired him back and he stayed there from 1972 until he retired in May 1988. With all of that he had spent 37 years as a classroom teacher. He had held positions of Coach, Principal, and 4-H Leader plus class sponsor. He was a member of the First Baptist Church where he had worked with young people and drove a church bus. He belonged to the Adair County Teachers Association, OEA, NEA, Adair County Retired Teachers Association and the Oklahoma Retired Teachers. He also served on the Eldercare Board, he coached T-ball and baseball. Kenneth touched many lives over the years and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his wife of over 58 years Juanita Holloway; his parents Bill and Lucinda; sisters Virginia, Christine, Dorothy, Imogene, and Modena; brothers George and Barney and his grandson Kevin Holloway.

He is survived by his children Kenneth Jay Holloway of Nebraska, Katherine Farrar and husband Rusty of Sulphur Springs, TX and Karen Davis and husband Steve of Edmond; grandchildren Mark Holloway, Christy Carothers, Shaunna Wenner, Julea Farrar-Smith, Kelly Farrar- Bradley, Amanda Davis and Trenton Davis; and his great grandchildren Whitney Holloway, Courtney Holloway, McKenna Smith, Addison Bradley, Parker Bradley, T.J. Burtleson, Samuel Holloway, Jacob Holloway, Blaine Holloway, Jamison Davis, Lincoln Wenner and Maxwell Wenner. Numerous nieces, nephews, friends and other relatives also survive him.
