Leroy Christie

Leroy Christie, born April 26, 1941 in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, passed from this life on July 22, 2017 at his home in Stilwell. He was the firstborn of Georgia Ann Terry and Samuel Augustus Christie.

Leroy was a quiet and private man who never asked for help but was always ready to help others. He could usually be found at home where he tended to two small gardens, one for vegetables, the other for roses. He enjoyed the birds that visited the bird baths. He preferred being outdoors and could often be found sitting in his old truck drinking coffee, smoking a cigarette and reading the paper. That's an image that will stay with all who knew him well.

Leroy was a saved man who preferred to worship outside the traditional church. He could always be found with a Bible nearby. He felt that on his passing he would see old friends and family that went before him. He will be deeply missed.

Leroy was preceded in death by his parents, his firstborn son, Sherman Lee Christie and his brother, Richard Shell.

He is survived by his wife, Cheryl Christie; ten children, Faylene Christie and Michael Wayne Christie, of Brushy Mountain, Daniel Christie and wife Ann, Michael Lee Christie, Sam Christie, Jeremiah Christie, Jess Christie, Christene Christie, David Christie and Amos Christie, all of Stilwell; two brothers, Charles Wayne Christie of Tahlequah and Woodrow Shell of Palmer, Alaska: four sisters, Betty Cogar, Sharon Shell, Carolyn Rich and Genia Patterson all of Stilwell; and his former wife, Tina Christie. Leroy was grandfather and great grandfather to many children.

Graveside services will be held Thursday, July 27, 2017 at Christie Cemetery with Larry Eubanks officiating. Final arrangements were entrusted to the care of Hart Funeral Home of Stilwell.
