Mellie Cantrell

Mellie Jo Cantrell the daughter of Daniel Lester and Helen Mildred (White) Steele was born October 18, 1935, in Murphysboro, Illinois and departed this life on August 1, 2020, in Stilwell, Oklahoma at the age of 85 years, 9 months and 14 days.

Mellie loved her family and enjoyed her role as a wife, mother and grandmother. She was a member of the Bidding Creek Baptist Church, and she loved serving the Lord there. Mellie enjoyed being outdoors whether she was working in her flower garden, working around the farm, messing with the animals, or working her vegetable garden. Mellie loved to cook, and she waited tables for several years at the Stilwell Cafe. She served as a foster Granny at Maryetta School for several years. Her family was dear to her, she loved her children and grandchildren. Mellie touched many lives over the years and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Levi Cantrell; her brothers Dan Steele and Homer Schuetz; her sister Roberta Parks and her sister-in-law Barbara Schuetz.

She is survived by a loving family which includes her significant other Ellis "Rat" Hummingbird of Stilwell; her children Gene Jacquot and wife Lynn of Altoona, IA, Gwen Schmidt and husband Dana of Stilwell, Melinda Benham and husband Mike of Stilwell and Barbara Barnett of Stilwell; her brother Floyd Schuetz and wife Paula of Goreville, IL; 8 grandchildren Cande Jacquot, Cory Arnett, Christopher Arnett, Beau Jacquot, Amanda Snyder, Lindsey Long, Melissa Eagle and Misty Nelson; and 13 great-grandchildren. Several nieces, nephews, friends and other relatives also survive her.
