Robert A. Gorton, the son of Leo Raymond Gorton and Gladys (Corson) Gorton, was born January 24, 1925 in Thompsonville, New York. He passed from this life April 10, 2017 in Claremore, Oklahoma at the age of 92 years, 2 months and 16 days.
Robert was married to Shirley Marsh and their union was blessed with three sons. Robert served his country in the U.S. Army as a member of Patton's 3rd Army 4th Armored Division, receiving a Purple Heart. After his honorable discharge in 1945, Robert received his pilot license and flew a four seater Stinson Voyager. He continued his love of flying until the age of 65. Robert was also a licensed aviation mechanic, working 5 years for Republic Aviation and another 25 years for American Airlines.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Gladys Gorton, his son, Robert Gorton, Jr, two brothers, Herbert Gorton and Lester Gorton and two sisters, Elaine and Margie.
His surviving family includes his sons, Clifton Gorton, of Collinsville and Richard Gorton; brothers, Norman and Leroy Gorton of New York and two sisters, Bertha Gurney, of Pennsylvania and Ester, of New York.
Graveside services will be held 1:00 p.m. Thursday, April 13, 2017 at Kirk Cemetery with Bro. Dan Ketcher officiating. Burial is under the care and direction of Hart Funeral Home of Stilwell.
