Sammy Pilcher

March 5, 1943 — May 30, 2017

Sammy "Red" Pilcher, son of Lowell and Minnie Pilcher, was born one of five children in Scraper, Oklahoma on March 5, 1943 and departed this life on May 30, 2017 at 74 years of age.

Red grew up around the Kansas, Oklahoma area, later moving to Westville, where he lived at Greystone Apartments for 22 years. The last few years he spent at the Stilwell Nursing Home, where he met lots of friends. Red was a happy fellow, always smiling.

He worked at the Westville Canning Company until its closing and the charcoal mill in Baron. He loved working on lawn mowers, weed eaters and making them start and run. He loved fishing with friends, going on car rides, site seeing and going to the Adair County Park to feed the ducks.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lowell and Minnie Pilcher, one brother, Dean Pilcher and one sister, Ruth Pilcher Heustis.

He is survived by a loving family which includes, one brother, Bill Pilcher (Marilyn) of Westville; one sister, Faye Sellers of Tahlequah; a very special granddaughter, Niki Drake and her son, Landon of Siloam Springs, AR; nephews, Andrew Pilcher (Kris) and children of Westville, Jr. Heustis (Linda) and children, Kate, Josh, Nathan and Chad of Westville, and Gary Luper of Texas; nieces, Geneva Heustis Wing (Donnie) of Ulysses, KS, Misty Pilcher of Westville, K.C. Shell (Brian) and children, Sarah and Jon of Westville, and Lori Grospie and family of Colorado; one very special friend, Hoy Gladen of Stilwell, who shared a room with him at the Stilwell Nursing Home. He is survived by several cousins and a host of great nieces and nephews and friends.

The family would like to extend their appreciation and gratitude to Stilwell Nursing Home and staff for their years of care and love.
