Thomas James Collins, born February 1, 1942 to Vick and Melba (Davidson) Collins departed this life to be with his Lord and Savior on February 6, 2017 at the age of 75 years and 5 days.
James was a lifelong resident of Stilwell where he served his community in the offices of City Council and Mayor for a number of years. He graduated from Cave Springs High School in 1960. James served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Era, also serving time in Germany.
When he returned home, he attended Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Oklahoma where he received a degree in Accounting. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service after serving over 20 years.
James was an avid coin collector and enjoyed traveling. He traveled with the Chieftains Quartet, working to produce their music tapes. He enjoyed the music of Elvis Presley and traveled to Graceland where he was able to meet him in person. James was affectionately known as "Bear" to close friends and family and was loved and respected by all.
He was preceded in death by his father, Vick Collins, paternal grandparents, Andy and Amy Collins, maternal grandparents, Marvin and Flora Davidson, one infant brother and one infant sister, several aunts and uncles.
He is survived by his mother, Melba Collins of Stilwell; two sisters, Darlene Morton and Vicki Terrell both of Stilwell; one son, Rick Duvall; four grandchildren, five great grandchildren; two nieces, one nephew, two great nieces, three great nephews and one great-great nephew; a very special lifelong friend, Louise Smith and a host of friends and other loved ones.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, February 10, 2017 at Hart Memorial Chapel with Bro. Jim Noble and Bro. Richard Gardner officiating. Interment will follow at Stilwell City Cemetery under the care and direction of Hart Funeral Home of Stilwell.
