Vera V. Franklan passed away peacefully on December 6, 2015, with her loving family by her side. She was born on February 24, 1920 to Jack Bell and Sarah Zula Rider in Marble City, Oklahoma.
Later the family moved to Stilwell and Vera became a graduate of Stilwell High School, Class of 1939. She then attended Northeastern State College in Tahlequah.
In 1951, she married Luke Franklan. The couple then resided in St. Louis, Missouri for many years. While living in St. Louis, she worked in the retail industry affiliated with a leading department store, Stix, Baer and Fuller in downtown St. Louis. After retirement, the couple returned to lived on family land near Stilwell.
She enjoyed spending time with friends and family. Her interests included fashion, sewing and exploring Eastern Oklahoma. She was a member of First Christian Church of Stilwell.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jack Bell Rider, Sr. and Sarah Zula Bean Rider; her husband, Luke Franklan; her brothers, Rass Rider, Jack Bell Rider, Jr., LeRoy (Skeet) Rider and Thomas Wade Rider; her sisters, LDee Rider Wilson, Lillian R. Rider Kelly and Cleo P. Rider Eads, all of Stilwell.
She is survived by her nephew, Mike Rider, of Tahlequah; nieces, Carol Brady, of St. Petersburg, FL, Margarett Parker, of Tahlequah, Ann Janes, of Stilwell, Dalta Morris, of Irving, TX, Teresa Roberts, of Siloam Springs, AR, Shelia Collins, of Georgetown, PA, Karen Means, of Woodstock, GA and Linda Sue Freeman, of Tulsa. Numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews and great-great nieces and great-great nephews.
Graveside services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 10, 2015, at Stilwell City Cemetery with Mike Rider officiating. Final arrangements are entrusted to the care of Hart Funeral Home.
