Verlia Belle Leatherwood the daughter of George and Pauline (Payne) Mays was born October 28, 1941, in the Greasy Community and departed this life on February 6, 2022, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, at the age of 80 years, 3 months and 9 days.
Verlia grew up in the Greasy Community and graduated from Cave Springs High School. She was an excellent cook and loved to feed everyone and every critter. She worked as a waitress for many years. Her greatest passion was to be outdoors working in her flower gardens, maintaining her yard and driving her John Deere lawn mower. Verlia had a compassionate heart and was the first to respond to any need, helping in any way she could. She will be deeply missed by her family and all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Pauline Mays, her former husband, Billy Ray Leatherwood, brothers Dwight, Dwaine and Larry Mays and sister Pat Isaacs.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory a loving family which includes her sons Richard Choate and wife Michelle of Shreveport, LA, Ronny Leatherwood, of Stilwell, Randy Leatherwood of Stilwell, Roger Leatherwood and wife Anita of Wichita, KS, Robert Leatherwood and wife Kim of Ft. Worth, TX; brother Tom Mays and wife Linda of Houston, TX and sister Carline Mays Morrison of Olathe, KS; 6 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and a close cousin Floyd Asbill of Stilwell. Many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends also survive her.
