Vernon Williams

Vernon Clayton Williams, the son of Ulysses Williams and Ruby (Newnam) Williams, was born February 2, 1933 in Sparks, Oklahoma. He passed from this life on August 21, 2016 in Fort Smith, Arkansas at the age of 83.

Clayton married Glenda Dewey in Oklahoma City on May 24, 1951 and their union was blessed with four children. They made their home in Bunch from 1963 until 1994 when Clayton retired from his cement business, Clayton & Rains Construction, and the two moved to Broken Bow where they currently resided.

Clayton enjoyed hunting, building houses, fishing and teaching his grandchildren to fish as he drove them around the lake in his boat. He built two of the houses that he and Glenda lived in as well as the homes of his son-in-law, Jack and sister-in-law, Barbara.

Clayton is preceded in death by his parents, Ulysses and Ruby Williams, one son, Rick Williams, one daughter, Joyce Pettigrew, two brothers, David C. Williams and U.G. Williams and one sister, Cosette Farrell.

His surviving family includes, his wife of 65 years, Glenda Williams, of the home; daughters, Verna Ritter and husband, Danny, of Sallisaw, Sherry Sheppard, of Sallisaw; son-in-law, Jack Pettigrew, of Stilwell; brother, Buell Williams and wife, Sharon, of Bunch; sister, Norma June Loyd and husband, Azle, of Bunch; sisters-in-law, Fonda Williams, of Bunch and Barbara Denton, of Broken Bow; brothers-in-law, Don Dewey, of Blanchard and Mark Dewey, of Oklahoma City; 11 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, 6 great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 24, 2016 at the Assembly of God in Bunch with Bro. Azle Loyd officiating. Interment will follow at Stilwell City Cemetery under the direction of Hart Funeral Home of Stilwell.
