Donald Ketcher

August 24, 1933 — May 17, 2020

Donald (Don) Eugene Ketcher, 86, of Midwest City, passed away peacefully on May 17, 2020, at Oklahoma Heart Hospital. A graveside service will be held  at Ketcher Cemetery in West Peavine, Oklahoma on May 22, 2020, at 11:00 am under the direction of Hart Funeral Home.

Don was born on August 24, 1933, in Haskell, Oklahoma to Noah and Tempie Ketcher, he was one of eight children. He grew up and graduated from Stilwell High School in 1951. He served in the US Army for 8 years and was stationed at Fort Sill Oklahoma and Fort Lee Virginia. He was awarded two medals during his time in the US Army, the National Defense Service medal and Good Conduct medal. He married his true love, Bett Crittenden, on August 12, 1961. Don worked at Tinker Air Force Base as a Computer Specialist and retired after 30 years. While working at Tinker Air Force Base he continued his education at Central State University and graduated with a degree in Business Administration. He was also a bus driver at Mid-Del Schools where he retired after driving for 10 years in 2002.

Don enjoyed spending time with his big family. Papa loved to attend his grandchildren’s events, he was their number one fan. He was always just one call away. It didn’t matter what the event was – a birthday dinner, sporting event, or whatever was going on, he was always there. Papa liked to stay active and didn’t let anything slow him down. He loved working in the outdoors and could fix anything he put his hands on. He was an OU Football season ticket holder for over 30 years and rarely missed a game. He didn’t know a stranger, and greeted everyone with a hug and a smile.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers Jay, Watie, and Stanley Ray and one sister, Tina, brother-in-laws Stan Hummingbird, Nick Hummingbird, and Monty Shipley; son-in-law Steve Asher.

Don is survived by his wife of the home and 3 daughters; Donna Asher of Midwest City, Debbie Ellis and husband Kevin of Midwest City, and Angie Kouba and husband Jeff of El Reno.
